Most folks think archery elk hunting is hard. I disagree! It is easy. (although killing them is darn hard) The only thing you have to do is stay warm, stay fed, stay alive and chase elk. To me that is very easy compared to every day life of raising a family, running a business, paying bills, exercising for elk season, and all of life's other stresses.

This is at least a trigger to get TPWD looking deeper into the issue. Once we go 3 years with a harvest of 1 or fewer birds (or a .33 bird average over a 3 year period) we begin to ask landown- ers, hunters and biologists what is happening to cause the decline in checked birds. In some cases, like in Brazoria, Fort Bend, Matagorda and Waller counties the biologists and landowners have stated that they have birds but are protecting them. In these cases we will not close the county. However, in the ...

Rocky Boy’s Tribal fish & Game Program

The Rocky Boy's Indian Reservation Fish & Game program was established in 1988. At that time there was very little big game to be found due to the fact there was year-around hunting. The Chippewa Cree Natural Resources Department created a Fish & Game Code to address this situation. A hunting season was established and the Code was strongly enforced. The wild game population increased tenfold. In 1996, the code was rewritten which ...

    From the Field
    Bobby LaSalle

It had been a long hunting season; I guided a few deer hunts, a few bird hunters, along with squeezing in a short elk hunt of my own. I was sitting in my nice warm office when two gentlemen walked in to the Natural Resource office to purchase a deer tag. They asked if they knew of a guide for the hunt they just purchased. Someone looked back at me and said "here's a guide right here.” The men asked if I would be interested in guiding them ...
