is exceedingly generous to landowners. New Mexico landowner vouchers sell for as
much as $5,000 for quality unit deer tags and $10,000 for quality unit bull
elk tags. This income from New
Mexico's wildlife is in addition to normal private
property access charges hunters pay to hunt private lands or simply to gain
access to public lands otherwise landlocked by private lands.
Things you need to know
about New Mexico Landowner Tags: Elk, Mule Deer, Antelope
1)
A tag holder or owner still must purchase a valid New Mexico Hunting
License from the state by redeeming the voucher you receive from the
landowner.
2)
Ranch only vouchers are good only on the ranch imprinted on your license.
A voucher does not give the person permission to hunt private land and
permission should be received in writing or by obtaining a private landowner trespass card issued by the landowner. (These cards are provided to
the landowner by the state of New
Mexico and are then issued to individuals by the landowners)
and they are typically valid for 1 season only.
3)
Private land only vouchers: All
landowner tags or landowner vouchers are NOT valid in the entire unit.
Some of them are good for the "Ranch Only" that
they were
issued to. Unit wide landowner tags or landowner vouchers are the most
common but you need to make certain they are unit wide before you purchase
them.
4)
Unit wide New Mexico
landowner tags: Most are unit wide but be absolutely certain before
buying these tags some are ranch only vouchers.
5) Landowner Allocation: New
Mexico Landowners receive up to 15% of licenses in units that are totally
limited for all rifle seasons as compensation for providing wildlife habitat
