New Mexico is one of the only western states in the country which still allows black bear hunting to be done with hounds.  Many of our black bears are color phase – with approximately 50% of the bears killed each year being etither blonde, cinnamon, chocolate and the other 50% are coal black bear. We have big mature Gila black bears that can weigh from 250 to 420 pounds depending on the type of food that is available to them.

Our outfit has hunted bear with quality hounds for over 20 years. Since moving in 1999 we have been based in Reserve, NM, the heart of the Gila mountains which is home to lots of great big game hunting.  We start early in the summer conditioning the hounds by traveling to Utah for the bear pursuit  season and stay there for about a month.  Our bear hunting team returns in early June to continue to exercise the dogs on an almost daily basis so they're in prime condition for the opening bell of bear season in the middle of August.  Our outfit starts hunting opening day of the season August 16th.

We utilize the very latest tracking equipment on our hounds along with a radio transmitter collar to insure the safety of our dogs and enhance the opportunity for sucess for the New Mexico Bear Hunting client.  Tracking the hounds better and not waste any of your hunt is all a direct result of the state of the art equipment.  Hound hunting for bears is absolutely my favorite hunt.  Watching the dogs trying so hard to find that track so they can get off that truck and run it!!!   LetsTreeIt has an extremely large mature pack of hounds.  Almost every hound we own has been on multiple New Mexico Bears.  WE have had bear pursuits that are short runs and their have been those runs that last 14-15 hours.

Nevada landowner tags are one of the best DIY hunts you can buy as you can hunt the bow, muzzleloader, both rifle seasons and in some units, the late archery seasons. That's 3 months of deer hunting with these tags and they come with private land with alfalfa as well. There are very few tags still available for the 2012 season (these may be the only ones) and once the draw results come out, they will all surely be gone by then.

Much of the prime hunting for this tag is in the heart of Lincoln County, Nevada Department of Wildlife's Unit 231. It is uniquely located where a very large elk herd touting many past monster bulls and trophy mule deer abound. Antelope are but just five minutes away in Hamblin Valley. While hunting deer and elk season you may also see mountain lion, bobcat, coyote or fox.

Nevada Area 231, unit 223, unit 241 and unit 242 unit 223 has excellent elk hunting, with one of the largest and best trophy producing elk herds in the state. Many world class elk bulls have been taken from the area. This includes two bulls that scored over 400 B/C. In the 2000 hunting season, there were three bulls taken that scored in the 380 range. In 2002 during muzzleloader season, a world record bull elk was harvested in area 231. According to a rumor,it is "The World Record" bull elk. Officials are waiting to make that decision. There have also been many world class mule deer taken throughout the years, including many Nevada record book mule deer. Unit 231 is a highly desired tag for both Nevada residents and non-resident hunters alike because of the quality of trophy elk.

Optional Lodging:

Lodging can be provided at the ranch Guest Ranche in Nevada There are five lodges of various sizes to accommodate guests. Each lodge has its own sleeping accomodations, with a private bath, fireplace or woodburning stove and a kitchenette. There is no electricity for some 17 miles but we have propane lighting and propane refrigerators and generators when needed. We also have emergency cell service available at the ranch.

The ranch lodging for a hunter choosing to add accommodations to his tag fee are uniquely situated approximately one and one half miles from the Utah border. The Utah and Nevada land in this area is approximately 98% public land and is open for anyone to hunt. The elk and deer herds travel between both Nevada and Utah therefore having the same genealogy. Our Nevada property and ranch are located about 1 mile from Southwest Desert for the limited entry bull elk hunt which is also know to be one of the best trophy bull elk producing units in the west.

Unit 231, 223, 241, 242 Wilson Creek Range. The terrain can be moderate to difficult with good vehicle access in almost all the units. Lots of mature bulls with many in the 350 B&C range. Bulls up to the 380's ++ a few whoopers. Only 11 non resident rifle tags in '10, 4 archery tags non resident in '10 and 4 muzzleloader tags in 2010.
