Unit 50 Hunting Location:

Hunt Type for Unit 50 500 501:

This is a one of a kind just fun mule deer hunt with an amazingly good population of deer and also some very remote areas such as the Lost Creek wilderness area Colorado unit 50, Colorado unit 500 and Colorado unit 501. The wilderness area has no vehicle traffic as it is accessible and only allowed by riding horseback or hiking. The vast majority of deer harvest come from this area in Units 50 500 501 and it is also the only one that has a fourth rifle season giving you a better chance especially during the snow season where 160” + are known to migrate further down making them very vulnerable and easier to spot on your hunt in these Unit 50 Specific Areas.

Colorado Hunting Unit 50 Area Facts:

This unit is also home to the Pike National Forest with literally thousands of public hunting acres with elevations as high as 13,000 feet, with some fairly moderate terrain to some steeper mountains. The Pike National Forest is located in the Front Range of Colorado, and is west of Colorado Springs which includes Pikes Peak. The forest encompasses about 1,106,604 acres within Clear Creek, Teller, Park, Jefferson, Douglas and El Paso counties. Over the last few years they have seen a steady increase in the trophy deer harvested in this area. Success rate is good, as there are some nice mule deer that stem from these big game units each and every year.

Terrain Info for Unit 5: When you are in the higher elevations you will mostly be encountering roadless terrain which means heavy hiking and backpacking. The thick timber and aspen regrowth stands in Unit 500 501 and 50 can make higher elevations a less likely chance to see your prized Mule Deer. The Eastern Half of 501 is more open since the Hayman Fire and multiple deer tend to migrate through this area in the later seasons of the year.

Optional Amenities For Hunting in Unit 50 501 500: We have a cabin available on the west side of unit 50 near Hartsel that you can rent to have state of the art access to the hunting area in Unit 50 500 501.
